Jonathan Lisus and Khrystina McMillan represent Paramount Fine Foods and its CEO, Mohamad Fakih, in a defamation lawsuit against anti-Muslim agitators. On May 13, 2019, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice released its decision awarding summary judgment against Kevin J. Johnston and FreedomReport.ca for their defamatory and disparaging statements against Mr. Fakih and Paramount.
The Court awarded $2.5 million in damages as well as injunctive relief, finding that the Johnston defendants’ “hateful Islamophobic remarks” have “no basis in fact” and bear the hallmarks of hate speech. A copy of the decision can be found here: 2019 ONSC 2910.
The decision comes after Mr. Fakih and Paramount settled their claim against a third defendant, Ranendra Banerjee following an unqualified apology by Mr. Banerjee, discussed at: https://www.lolg.ca/news-results/news-item/lolg-victory-in-defamation-lawsuit-against-hate-speech
