Shaun provides clients with peace of mind and confidence that even their most challenging cases are in the hands of a highly skilled and persuasive litigator. He is well-recognized by the legal community as an intelligent and standout advocate.

Shaun successfully handles the entire litigation process – from initial advice through final judgment and appeal. He acts for clients in a range of corporate-commercial disputes, with particular expertise in commercial litigation within the context of family and estate law disputes, shareholder disputes, as well as franchise and real estate disputes. Shaun has extensive experience with fast moving cases involving Mareva and injunction relief and mid-market commercial litigation.  

Throughout his career, Shaun has earned a reputation as an erudite and effective litigator. Clients praise him for his responsiveness, strategic thinking, and his excellent written and oral advocacy skills. He has been lauded for finding creative approaches to complex litigation issues. He appears at arbitrations, trials, and appeals as well as administrative hearings and judicial reviews.

Shaun volunteers as a Chair of the University of Toronto Academic Discipline Tribunal, is a former Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Executive and currently sits as a member of the Users Committee for the Commercial List of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Prior to joining Lax O’Sullivan, Shaun spent several years as a litigation associate in New York at one of the largest law firms in the world.

Successfully argued that there were conflicting decisions on whether there is a wavier of privilege over legal advice when a party pleads detrimental reliance on another party’s misrepresentation.
  • 417 Infiniti Nissan Ltd. v. Nissan Canada Inc.: Successfully resisted the defendant’s attempt to restrict the disclosure of documents to counsel and experts only on the basis of confidentiality and commercial sensitivity.
