Superior Court Issues Summons And Orders Examination Of Dalton McGuinty, Former Finance Minister And Deputy Premier, Dwight Duncan, And Three Other Former Cabinet Ministers As Well As Current Secretary Of Cabinet, Steve Orsini

On August 4, 2017, the Superior Court of Justice ordered former Premier, Dalton McGuinty, former Finance Minister and Deputy Premier, Dwight Duncan, and current Secretary of the Cabinet, Steve Orsini, to attend and be examined in a lawsuit brought by Standardbred horse breeders from across the Province arising from the Liberal government's 2012 unilateral cancellation of the fourteen-year agreement to share revenue from the Slots at Racetrack Programme. The Superior Court also ordered eight other current and former senior government employees to attend and be examined, including McGuinty's senior aide, Karim Bardeesy, and Dwight Duncan's Chief of Staff, Tim Shortill. The decision is the most recent in a series of orders made by the Court including earlier orders compelling documentary disclosure from Ontario and OLG. The Court also found that Premier Wynne and Ted McMeekin have relevant evidence but are immune from being compelled to testify while the legislature is in session.
