Crystal’s practice encompasses a broad range of commercial and civil litigation including contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, defamation, bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings, employment disputes, administrative and regulatory matters, arbitrations, appeals and injunctions. Crystal is multilingual and fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
A versatile and tenacious litigator, Crystal has appeared before all levels of Court in Ontario and has experience with trials, motions, mediations, and arbitrations.
Prior to joining the firm, Crystal practised at a leading international law firm. At law school, Crystal served as a Senior Editor for the University of Toronto Law Review and volunteered as a case worker for the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights and the Pro Bono Students Canada Family Law Project.
Successfully quashing a motion brought by donor seeking leave to appeal from the Superior Court of Justice’s dismissal of the donor’s challenge of an arbitrator’s jurisdiction motion decision.
Counsel to charity in disputes with donor, including striking application to declare the charity a bankrupt, and defending injunction that would have prevented charitable distribution.
Representing Rogers in appeals from decisions of the CRTC concerning the proper scope of the Commission’s dispute resolution powers under the Broadcasting Act.
Represented Rogers in a major contractual dispute with Corus Media concerning television rights and defeated claims of injunctive relief, sealing orders, and other extraordinary remedies.
Successfully represented member of provincial parliament in defamation proceedings against national media, scope of defences of justification and responsible journalism.
