Precedent-setting constitutional challenge of law in returning Greenbelt lands

Overview

Counsel to large landowner in proceedings against the Ontario government regarding the inclusion of land inside the Greenbelt. After preliminary proceedings, LOLG negotiated a settlement of the $120 million claim, with Ontario agreeing to remove most of the land from the Greenbelt to allow for development. Due to an unrelated scandal, Ontario passed legislation returning the land to the Greenbelt, and LOLG is now counsel on an application to have the legislation declared unconstitutional. Decisions from preliminary proceedings in underlying case at 2018 ONSC 355 and 2018 ONSC 4552.
