Aly’s unique interdisciplinary background and experience in the sciences and business strategy enable him to develop creative and agile solutions for clients. He is a tenacious advocate, with a rigorous and results-oriented approach to dispute resolution, who is unyielding in pursuing his clients’ position.

Before joining Lax O’Sullivan, Aly worked at a leading professional regulation and regulatory law boutique in Toronto, where his practice focused predominantly on acting as a prosecutor for various regulatory authorities.

Aly graduated from the LL.M. program at Cambridge University in 2020, and was awarded first-class honours for his thesis on causation in healthcare, “But for But for: The Collapse of Causal Constructs in Interprofessional Healthcare.”

Aly clerked for Madam Justice Andromache Karakatsanis at the Supreme Court of Canada for the 2018-2019 term.

Aly has also gained experience working in public policy at the federal government level. While working at Policy Horizons Canada, he developed the “Adaptive Regulatory Mechanisms” theory of the future of regulation. This theoretical framework has been presented as a model to leaders in the regulatory space at both federal and provincial levels.

Aly earned degrees in common law and civil law, and an MBA, from McGill University. He won several awards for academic excellence. He also served on the Students’ Society Judicial Board for two terms, and was a founding member of the McGill Journal of Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. Aly graduated with honours from the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program at the University of Toronto Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, where he has lectured on law and professional regulation in the healthcare context.

Aly is part of the Young Advocates Standing Committee and The Advocates’ Society’s Diversity & Inclusion Steering Committee.
